Ever since the early days of the Church, some Christians, both men and women, have devoted themselves to prayer, penance, and various apostolates. Some of them remained in the world in the service of the Church, and others left everything and went out into the desert to be alone with God.
Today, there are many different religious orders or communities of men and of women. Women religious can be sisters or nuns and male religious can be either priests or brothers. Each religious community is like a family with its own Founder and mission, and its own “family spirit” or spirituality.
The Missionaries of the Holy Spirit are a Religious Congregation of men consecrated to God for the service of the Church. Living in community, they are called to serve as brothers, deacons, and priests. Their mission is to extend the Reign of the Holy Spirit to all people. Their life is geared toward a call to holiness in the motto they live by, “Above all, contemplatives, then men of action.”
